Ferrous Processing & Trading is committed to supporting ethical practices within the scrap metal recycling industry.  In recent years, scrap metal thefts have increased across the country.  This is partially due to the rise in scrap metal values for materials such as steel, aluminum, and copper.  In Texas, it is even considered a felony to steal an item valued under $20,000 with any amount of copper content.  Thieves take everything from copper wiring, air conditioning and automotive parts, to structural building materials and entire vehicles.

In light of these recent events and concerns, FPT is pleased to report that one of their employees has taken measures to help investigate and prevent scrap metal theft in their community.  The Auburn Hills Police Department recently honored Security Guard Matt Girard for his invaluable collaboration.  Girard cooperated with police during a recent investigation, resulting in multiple arrests.

“I’m very proud of what he has accomplished in earning a good reputation for Ferrous Processing & Trading with the law enforcement community,” commended his supervisor, Chief Security Officer James A. Saffold.

Girard’s efforts included partnering with police on recent investigations by reporting metals purchases made at his FPT facility.  The information Girard provided ultimately helped lead the Auburn Hills Police Department to making several arrests and recovering stolen property.  His efforts set an example for others at FPT and throughout the scrap metal recycling industry.

In recent years, many scrap metal processing companies and associations have banded together to help educate customers and employees on ethical practices and measures they can take to prevent metals theft.  For scrap metal recycling companies, it can be nearly impossible to determine if materials are stolen or not, but by following correct documentation procedures, they can discourage thieves and help assist local law enforcement agencies with investigations.

Girard was presented with a Citizens Certificate of Appreciation at a reception and ceremony.  Girard’s actions reflect the overall dedication to excellence and high standards valued at Ferrous Processing & Trading.

“We are very proud of the work Girard has done with the Auburn Hills Police Department,” shares FPT Executive Vice President, A.G. Hering.  “Our company is committed to helping deter metals theft, and is efforts have really benefited the community.”
