Recycling Today also released a new report of the twenty largest ferrous scrap metal recycling companies in the United States. Ferrous Processing & Trading ranked eighth on the list, processing 2.8 million tons of ferrous material in 2011 at over 17 locations nationwide.
The journal created the rankings based on the gross amount of ferrous scrap material that was physically handled by each company, combining all of its facilities. The totals did not include metal scrap that was never physically present at a company facility, but may have been brokered by third parties or company traders.
In all, the twenty companies processed a combined total of 55 million tons of ferrous material at over 700 different facilities throughout the United States. These totals do not include non-ferrous metals that may have also been processed at the facilities.
